How Long Is 1 2 Business Days?

1 to 5 calendar days if it is the delivery time; 3 to 7 if it is only the processing time. First check which clock the phrase is on. "Arrives in 1–2 business days" counts to your door: the first or second weekday after your order is logged, so 1–2 days early in the week and up to 5 when a weekend falls inside. "Ships in 1–2 business days" only counts until the box leaves the warehouse. One retailer's policy gave in-stock orders up to 2 business days to process, said its carriers did not pick up on weekends or postal holidays, and started the transit clock only at pickup. Add a typical 2-business-day transit and the same phrase means 3 to 7 calendar days.

A week with no holidays (week of October 19, 2026). Calendar days are counted from the order date. A weekend order has no cutoff: stores either count from the order date (middle column) or log it as Monday's order (right column). Last updated: October 2026.

What does 1–2 business days mean?

Two things decide the answer before any counting starts. The first is the cutoff: an order placed after the store's daily cutoff, or on a weekend, is handled as if it arrived on the next business day. That day becomes day 0. The second is what the phrase is attached to. "Arrives in 1–2 business days" is a delivery promise. "Ships in 1–2 business days" is not; it only says when the box leaves.

Read the sentence on the order page closely. The verb tells you which clock you are on.

The cutoff is local, and not always yours

Cutoffs vary more than most shoppers expect. Retailer shipping pages from 2013–2016 show the spread: one set its 2-day cutoff at 2 p.m. in the delivery address's time zone, another at 6 p.m. in the delivery address's time zone, and a third at 3 p.m. Eastern for overnight and 2-day orders but 1 p.m. Eastern for its express tier. Same promise, three different clocks.

So an order placed at 2:30 p.m. in Chicago can be "today" at one store and "tomorrow" at another. On a Thursday that half hour moves the earliest delivery from Friday to Monday.

Processing time vs delivery time

Timeline for an order placed Friday, November 20, 2026: as a delivery promise it arrives Monday 23 or Tuesday 24; as processing time it ships Monday or Tuesday and, with a 2-business-day transit that skips Thanksgiving, arrives Wednesday 25 to Friday 27.

When "1–2 business days" is the handling time, the store has that long to pick, pack and hand the parcel over. The carrier's estimate starts only when it picks the parcel up, and carriers often don't collect on weekends or postal holidays. A shipping-confirmation email can therefore arrive on Friday while the box physically leaves on Monday.

The figure above runs one Friday order through both readings. As a delivery promise it lands Monday or Tuesday. As processing plus a 2-business-day transit, it lands between Wednesday and Friday, a full week after the order, because Thanksgiving falls in the middle.

Stores blur this themselves. One retailer's estimate page promised delivery in "2 business days" for orders before its evening cutoff, while its policy page sold the same service as "2-day delivery" and added that Friday, Saturday and holiday orders could take longer. Two days on the banner, four calendar days on a Friday.

1–2 business days in a holiday week (2026)

A weekday holiday is skipped like a Sunday. An order placed on the holiday itself works like a weekend order: the right column applies if the store logs it as the next business day's. These are the U.S. federal holidays; some carriers and stores keep working on a few of them, so check yours.

The Friday after Thanksgiving is not a federal holiday, so it counts here. Plenty of businesses close that day anyway; if yours does, push the dates one business day later.

When "1–2 business days" isn't about shipping

Card replacements, refunds and account changes use the same phrase, and the same counting. A request sent on Saturday reaches its second business day on Tuesday if Monday counts as day 1, or Wednesday if the request is logged as Monday's. Never Monday. Refund windows are longer: retailer policies have quoted 10–14 business days to process a return, which is two to three calendar weeks. For any other number, count it on the business days calculator or see business days from today.

Questions

Does 1-2 business days include weekends?

No. Saturday and Sunday are skipped, which is why a Friday order lands on Monday or Tuesday. A carrier may still deliver on Saturday, but a store doesn't count it toward its promise.

If I order on Friday, when will 1–2 business days end?

Monday or Tuesday if you beat the cutoff, Tuesday or Wednesday if you didn't, and a day later again if Monday is a holiday. A Saturday order lands in the same Monday-to-Wednesday window, depending on how the store logs weekend orders.

Is 1-2 business days 24 to 48 hours?

Only from Monday to Wednesday. From Thursday onward the weekend sits inside the window, so it is 3 to 5 calendar days.

Is "ships in 1–2 business days" the same as delivery?

No. It is processing time. Delivery is that plus the carrier's transit, which starts when the parcel is picked up.

Does the day I order count as day 1?

No. The order day is day 0 if you are before the cutoff on a business day. Day 1 is the next business day.

Dates are counted Monday to Friday without the U.S. federal holidays in 5 U.S.C. 6103 (observed dates), the same rules as the business days calculator. Cutoff, processing and refund examples come from archived help pages of U.S. retailers that have since closed: drugstore.com (2013), Jet.com (2016), Diapers.com (2015) and Diapers.com (2014). Your store's policy and your carrier's holiday schedule decide the final date.
