How to read the business day calendar
- Plain days are working days: Monday to Friday, not a holiday.
- Grey days are weekends. Red days are US federal holidays on their observed date, so a holiday that falls on a Sunday shows on the Monday.
- Striped days are the Fridays before a Saturday holiday. Federal offices close on them; Federal Reserve Banks and the ACH system stay open. Switch to Banks & ACH and they turn into normal working days.
- The count includes both days you tap. Inside the selection, working days are filled in blue; weekends and holidays keep their own color and are not counted.
Federal offices or banks?
Use the federal-office calendar for government filing deadlines and contracts that follow the federal holiday schedule. Use Banks & ACH when you are counting toward a payment, direct deposit or transfer that settles between banks. If a contract defines “business day” itself, that definition wins. The full comparison, with the dates the two calendars disagree, is on federal vs bank working days.
